The embattled Nairobi County Governor H.E Mike Mbuvi Sonko was this afertnoon impeached by the members of the Nairobi City county Assembly.
Mike Sonko was earlier reported to have successfully stop his impeachment by a court order.
A total of 100 members of the county assembly participated in the process, with 88 member voting for the motion to impeach him while only 2 members stood by him.
Prior to his impeachment, Justice James Rika recused himself from the case.
Sonko’s lawyer accused the court of bias in this matter, insisting that the orders stopping the impeachment are still in force.
However, county assembly lawyers said the orders have been vacated.
Reports indicate that the judge recused himself after tempers flared in court on the issues related to the ongoing impeachment.
The media was barred from entering the court.
Lawyer Harrison Kinyanjui, acting for Sonko, said the judge recused himself without giving a reason.
