Marriage is not a passport to Property Ownership, Justice Martha Koome tells CJ interview Panel.

Justice Martha Koome was interviewed to find Maraga Successor as the next Chief Justice at Supreme Court. Justice Martha has told the panel that she believes that marriage does not give one the right to ownership of other partners’ property.

She said many partners take advantage of marriage to demand ownership of property and equality of rights to property. She clarified that the property that has been accumulated while in marriage is the one that’s suppose to be shared by the spouse, but the property the  partner comes with or already has before marriage is not supposed to be shared between the spouse.

Justice Martha was responding to question by Justice Mohammed   Warsame who wanted to know her stand on the equality rights to property.
