Police officers in Mulot, Bomet County, are holding a middle-aged man who was arrested cooking dog meat along Amalo River, in a bizarre incident that has shocked area residents.
According to Kiplabotwo location Chief Stanley Towett, the man was traced by young boys who were herding after they were attracted by a smell of the meat coming from a bushy thicket along the river.
They rushed to the scene and found the suspect, commonly known in the area as Juma, having slaughtered a dog and put aside some cooked parts ready for eating.
Mr. Towett said members of the Nyumba Kumi managed to rescue the suspect from rowdy youths who were baying for his blood.
He was frogmarched to Mulot Police Station, where is currently being detained, with some of the ripped dog’s parts, a cooked ugali and some of the cooking utensils.
The suspect admitted that he had been selling his meals to local joints at Mulot sunsets and some of the streets in the trading centre.
Following the incident, the area chief has banned the selling of sausages and samosas at Mulot sunset area during the night.
