The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) is mourning the death of yet another medic to COVID-19.
Dr Stephen Mogusu, a 28-year-old medical officer, died at the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH) where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.
In a tweet on Monday evening, KMPDU says the medic succumbed after developing Covid-19 complications.
The statement further claims that at the time of his death, the young medic had not received his salary for 5 months, had no health insurance and his young family is left with no compensation.
The union lamented that the youthful doctor had paid a steep price of patriotism.
KMPDU Acting Secretary-General Dr Chibanzi Mwachonda had before the medic’s death appealed to Kenyans of good will to contribute towards his urgent medical expenses.
On Monday, the union suspended its strike for additional 14 days to allow for dialogue on their welfare.
