Deputy President William Ruto and his Hustler Nation supports have expressed their joy after High Court judges declared the constitutional amendment bill 2020 sponsored through the Building Bridges Initiative illegal. Deputy President William Ruto in his twitter message , was thrilled by the decision of the five member bench team. Ruto`s tweet:
“There is God in heaven who loves Kenya immeasurably. May God`s name be praised forever.”
The five judges, Joel Ngugi, George Odunga, Chacha Mwita, Teresia Matheka and Jarius Ngaah, argued that BBI was President Uhurus’ initiative contrary to Article 257 of the Constitution. The five bench judge team also ruled that the task force that morphed to a steering committee was unlawful and unconstitutional outfit, that it was invalid from the beginning.
The Judges commended the President for his effort of trying to unite the country through BBI, however they noted that the head of state has no power to initiate any move to amend the constitution.
The High court judges also faulted the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, stating that the electoral body didn’t meet the threshold of five commissioners to verify the Building Bridges Initiative signatures submitted to it by the national secretariat.
