Famed American singer/songwriter/actress Ashanti has tested positive for COVID-19 only days after going back home from a vacation in Kenya.
Ashanti took to Instagram on Saturday night to notify her fans of the news, however stating that she is fine and not in any pain.
“Hey y’all I can’t believe I’m saying this but I tested positive for COVID-19. I’m ok and not in any pain,” she wrote.
Ashanti arrived at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Kenya last week on December 7,2020 and stayed at a posh hotel in Karen.
She spent the next couple of days touring such places as the Nairobi National Park from where she posted lots of photos and videos on her Instagram stories for her fans.
Despite indicating that she was ready to continue with it from her house, Verzuz effectively postponed the battle between the singer and Keyshia Cole that was slated for Sunday to January 9, 2021 following the news of her contracting the coronavirus.
“Unfortunately, we have to postpone tonight’s @Ashanti vs @KeyshiaCole #VERZUZ. Ashanti tested positive for COVID-19 beforehand, and we cannot put anyone at risk in the process,” read a statement from Verzuz.
“First time this has struck us so close to showtime. We apologize to our incredible audience! Get well soon, Ashanti. Wear a mask, stay inside, and take COVID-19 seriously. It’s truly affecting our community.”
Verzuz, a creation of multiple award-winning American music producers Timbaland and Swizz Beatz during the COVID-19 pandemic, puts two superstars head-to-head as they play through their respective discographies.
Previous battles include Teddy Riley and Babyface, Erykah Badu and Jill Scott, Brandy and Monica, Ludacris and Nelly and Young Jeezy and Gucci Mane.
